My Story
Hi my name is Barley. I’m a very active and energetic boy between two and three years old and weigh 51 lb. My past is a mystery. I was found as a stray and brought to a shelter where it was discovered that I had heartworms. While I was there I was neutered, received my shots and was treated for the heartworms. Then they asked Suncoast to take me. I am looking for my forever home and here are some of my needs…
I need a home with a fence yard. I like to bark when I play, so apartment or condo life would not be a good situation for me. I also like to run and play chase several times a day with my friends so a fenced yard is a must.
I need another very active young dog to play with. I’m not a happy boy if I can’t use up my energy and this gets me in trouble.
I need someone who will dedicate time with me on obedience work. While I am well mannered, sweet and cuddly and know some commands there are still some things I need to work on. I’m currently working on my skills and my foster home and my foster mom says while I might be stubborn in some areas I am a quick learner. I’m also extremely food motivated so don’t forget the treats.
A home without cats would probably be best. In my foster home I will chase the kitties and bark at them incessantly because they don’t want me to sniff them or play with them. My foster mom has been working with me on my manners in this respect and I have made progress but I still need work.
I am looking for a home without children. My behavior with children is unknown and due to an issue before arriving in my current foster home it would be best that I went to a home without children.
In my mind mealtime is a race to see who finishes first so I will need a slow feed bowl and to be fed separately. I will not be able to be free fed.
Things I like…TREATS! Rubber squeaky toys. Walks, I’m pretty good on a leash. Playing with friends, hanging out and getting hugs from my foster mom.
I am a very well behaved boy when left at home on my own and do not require to be locked in a crate. I will however need to be kept out of the kitchen. My foster mom tells people that I don’t just counter surf, I counter clear!
If you have read all my wants and needs and you think I sound like the boy for you, fill out an adoption application.
