My Story
My name is Betty, in honor of Betty White, because I was rescued the day before Betty’s birthday on January 16th. I was a stray on the streets of north Florida and found myself at Walton County Animal Services. The generous people at SBR took me in even though I’m only half basset because they knew I needed help. The other half is probably Labrador which would make me a bass-ador. When I first got to my foster home, I had a mammary gland infection, and I was not spayed. After my infection was cleared, I was scheduled for surgery so that I could be spayed but because of the complication of several mammary tumors, I had to go to a specialist veterinarian. My surgery went great and even though I was feeling pretty good, I had to spend the night and I had a drain that they put in me for a couple of days. The good news is, I’ve recovered well from my surgery. The bad news is, they found that I have an aggressive stage 3 mammary cancer. My foster mom is so sad because she says I’m the sweetest, gentlest dog she has ever taken care of and she has promised to love and care for me for the rest of my days.
So far, Betty has been doing very well post-surgery. She still likes to play with her toys and loves her snacks but occasionally is bit unsteady on her feet. If you would like to help with Betty’s medical expenses, please tap a SUPPORT button to donate only to Betty.
